Belgium's prime minister was a little surprised on landing back home from Wednesday's NATO summit in Turkey to find that he had a handgun and ammunition in his luggage.
After NATO leaders gathered for Wednesday's fractious summit in Ankara, their host, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, handed each an unusual parting gift: a vintage revolver, along with live ammunition indicating it was not just for show.
Erdogan wanted to showcase Turkey's defence industry, which has become a key export and foreign policy tool.

Soon after troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Western leaders expelled hundreds of Russian spies from their capitals and blacklisted companies with ties to the Kremlin.
The coordinated effort was intended to make it harder for the Kremlin to collect intelligence and buy equipment like microchips, transmitters and the machinery used to make weapons.
Since then, officials say, dozens of those banished spies have turned up in an unexpected place: Japan.
The country’s weak espionage laws and flourishing high-tech industry have made it a crucial piece of the Russian war effort.

Shares of SpaceX lost ground for a fourth straight session Wednesday, finishing down 0.6%. The stock closed at $135.27, earlier hitting a low of $132.15 to mark the first time it dropped below the $135 at which the company first sold shares to the public on June 12.
That culminated a dramatic round trip for a stock that managed highs above $225 in its first few days of trading.
SpaceX has likely been a victim at least in part of investor skepticism about the resilience of the AI trade.
