Scientists have observed the largest-known rotating structure in the cosmos - a gargantuan thread-like assemblage of hundreds of galaxies, gas and dark matter that makes up a filament in the macrostructure of the universe called the cosmic web.
"This is the largest individual spinning structure so far detected. Statistically, we believe there are other spinning structures, some of which could be larger. However, we have not been able to detect them directly with our current data and telescopes," said University of Oxford astrophysicist and study co-lead author Lyla Jung.

The pioneering American maker of the Roomba, iRobot -- once the leader in robot vacuums -- said that it had filed for bankruptcy and that control of the company would be taken over by its Chinese supplier.
Founded in 1990 by three researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, iRobot signaled with its early products an ambitious vision for how robots would help humans.
The company’s revenue declined in the face of scrutiny from regulators, data privacy issues and competition from rivals including Shenzhen Picea Robotics, iRobot’s new owner.

The maker of fantasy videogames lived in China and appeared via video, speaking through an interpreter. He said he hoped to have 20 or so U.S.-born children through surrogacy--boys, because they’re superior to girls--to one day take over his business.
Several of his kids were being raised by nannies in nearby Irvine as they awaited paperwork to travel to China. He hadn’t yet met them, he told the judge, because work had been busy.

Critics argue that formalizing nearly nonstop trading could worsen some of the very problems that plague the structure of equity markets today -- thin liquidity, sharp price swings and an increasingly “gamified” trading environment.
“This is literally the worst thing in the world,” the Wells Fargo trading desk wrote in a note to clients. “I cannot think of an action that single-handedly gamifies the stock market even more than it has already become. This is the epitome of making trading even more like gambling.”

In a high-security Shenzhen laboratory, Chinese scientists have built what Washington has spent years trying to prevent: a prototype of a machine capable of producing the cutting-edge semiconductor chips that power artificial intelligence, smartphones and weapons central to Western military dominance, Reuters has learned.
Completed in early 2025 and now undergoing testing, the prototype fills nearly an entire factory floor. It was built by a team of former engineers from Dutch semiconductor giant ASML, who reverse-engineered the company's extreme ultraviolet lithography machines or EUVs, according to two people with knowledge of the project.

The European Union proposed watering down rules that would have effectively banned the sale of new combustion-engine cars in the bloc from 2035, after heavy pressure from the automotive industry.
The move announced Tuesday is the latest sign of a major economy pulling back on its electric-vehicle ambitions as the transition away from gasoline-powered cars proves more difficult than many policymakers had anticipated.
