A cognitively impaired New Jersey man grew infatuated with “Big sis Billie,” a Facebook Messenger chatbot with a young woman’s persona. His fatal attraction puts a spotlight on Meta’s AI guidelines, which have let chatbots make things up and engage in ‘sensual’ banter with children.
Rushing in the dark with a roller-bag suitcase to catch a train to meet her, Bue fell near a parking lot on a Rutgers University campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey, injuring his head and neck. After three days on life support and surrounded by his family, he was pronounced dead on March 28.

Norway's sovereign wealth fund, the world's largest, will exclude another six Israeli companies with connections to the West Bank and Gaza from its portfolio following an ethics review, it said on Monday.
As of August 14, the fund had 19 billion crowns ($1.86 billion) invested in 38 companies listed in Israel, the fund's operator Norges Bank Investment Management said, a reduction of 23 companies since June 30.
"More companies could be excluded," Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg told reporters.
Last Monday, the fund announced it was terminating contracts with all three external asset managers who handled some of its Israeli investments.

Initial public offerings in continental Europe have nearly halved in value compared with last year. Fundraising in the U.S., meanwhile, has jumped 38% to around $40 billion, while IPOs more than doubled in value in Hong Kong after a fallow patch.

In a visit to India this week, China’s top diplomat said the two Asian nations should deepen cooperation amid international threats to free trade, a sign that President Trump’s trade war could accelerate a thaw in the frosty relationship between Beijing and New Delhi.
Both countries have faced hefty tariff threats from Trump over their trade policies, with India singled out in recent weeks for its large-scale purchases of Russian oil.

The allegations center on what’s known as mortgage occupancy fraud, or when a borrower says he or she plans to use a property as a primary residence, even though it’s a second home or an investment.
Lenders typically offer better terms on mortgages for a primary residence, and let people borrow more than they would for a second home or an investment property they may rent out.
For a primary residence, for instance, the down payment can be as low as 3% to 5%. For a second home, typically 10% to 20%. For an investment property, it’s usually at least 20%.
