１、まずは原文を読んで、だいたいどのような内容かを推測する

日本語訳は可能な限り前から後ろに訳している。その癖をつけないと、早く読んだり、耳で聞いて理解するようにはならないからだ。話し言葉は前から順に消えていくので、聞き手は前から順に理解している。日本語は結論が後に来ると言われるが、文脈から聞き手は結末を予測しているのだ。

英語では結論が先に来るので、聞き手はその詳細を期待することになる。例えば、何かが最も上がったなどという表現の後には、期間や範囲を限定する表現が続く。その後に理由やその他の詳細が続くのだ。だから英語での討論では「いったい何がいいたいの？」などということはなく、聞き手が話し手を途中で遮って、「あなたの言いたいことは分かるが、、、」と自分の意見を述べることもできるのだ。

On May 4, 2022, NASA's InSight lander detected the largest quake yet recorded on Mars, one with a 4.7 magnitude - fairly modest by Earth standards but strong for our planetary neighbor.
Given Mars lacks the geological process called plate tectonics that generates earthquakes on our planet, scientists suspected a meteorite impact had caused this marsquake.
But a search for an impact crater came up empty, leading scientists to conclude that this quake was caused by tectonic activity - rumbling in the planet's interior - and giving them a deeper understanding about what makes Mars shake, rattle and roll.

“I don’t care anymore,” said Basil Abu Sada, a 35-year-old software engineer whose great-grandfather first brought the family to Jabalia. He worries that if they leave, they won’t find food or shelter--or ever be able to return. “If I die, I die.”

Germany's nominal gross domestic product is likely to overtake Japan's this year, with the weak yen and inflation in Europe pushing up the value of Germany's gross domestic product in U.S. dollar terms, according to a forecast by the International Monetary Fund.
In 2000, Japan's economy was the second-largest in the world, at $4.96 trillion, which is larger than it is today. At the time, its economy was 2.5 times bigger than that of Germany and 4.1 times bigger than China's. At the beginning of that year, the exchange rate was about 105 yen per dollar.
China overtook Japan and moved into second place in 2010. By the end of this year, its economy is forecast to be 4.2 times larger than Japan's.

Governments should open a new front in the international clampdown on tax evasion with a global minimum tax on billionaires, which could raise $250 billion annually, the EU Tax Observatory said on Monday.
If levied, the sum would be equivalent to only 2% of the nearly $13 trillion in wealth owned by the 2,700 billionaires globally, the research group hosted at the Paris School of Economics said.
Currently billionaires effectively pay far less personal tax than other taxpayers of more modest means because they can park wealth in shell companies sheltering them from income tax, the group said in its 2024 Global Tax Evasion Report.
