このページの使い方
１、まずは原文を読んで、だいたいどのような内容かを推測する
２、単語、表現を参照しながら、もう一度読む
３、日本語訳で確認する
４、最後に原文を音読する
５、日本語訳を読むだけでも、１週間の出来事が分かる
日本語訳は可能な限り前から後ろに訳している。その癖をつけないと、早く読んだり、耳で聞いて理解するようにはならないからだ。話し言葉は前から順に消えていくので、聞き手は前から順に理解している。日本語は結論が後に来ると言われるが、文脈から聞き手は結末を予測しているのだ。
英語では結論が先に来るので、聞き手はその詳細を期待することになる。例えば、何かが最も上がったなどという表現の後には、期間や範囲を限定する表現が続く。その後に理由やその他の詳細が続くのだ。だから英語での討論では「いったい何がいいたいの？」などということはなく、聞き手が話し手を途中で遮って、「あなたの言いたいことは分かるが、、、」と自分の意見を述べることもできるのだ。

Of those surveyed, 63% said a better understanding of the commitment of marriage prior to marrying could have saved their partnership. Perhaps related, 34% of respondents said that their marriage ended due to infidelity.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, said this week it may collect biometric and employment information from its users -- expanding the range of personal information that account-holders may be exposing to the site.
The disclosures came in an update to the company’s privacy policy, which added two sections related to the new data collection practice.
“Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes,” the policy read.
In addition, under a new section labeled “job applications,” X said it may collect users’ employment and educational history.

China’s National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic planner, said Monday that it would set up a bureau to coordinate policies across different government bodies and help development of the private economy, the source of most of the new jobs and economic dynamism in the country.
The new bureau will be tasked with monitoring the country’s private economy and establishing channels for regular communication with private enterprises, Zhang Shixin, a senior official at the economic planner, told a news conference.

Cuba has uncovered a human trafficking ring that coerced its citizens to fight for Russia in the war in Ukraine, its foreign ministry said, adding that Cuban authorities were working to "neutralize and dismantle" the network.
"The Ministry of the Interior... is working on the neutralization and dismantling of a human trafficking network that operates from Russia to incorporate Cuban citizens living there, and even some from Cuba, into the military forces participating in war operations in Ukraine," the Cuban government statement said.
Russia's defence ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The world’s second-largest economy is grappling with growing financial distress, which means big problems for the nation’s nearly $3 trillion shadow banking industry.
Chinese households are spending less, factory production is falling and businesses are investing more slowly than last year. Youth unemployment has jumped so much that Beijing decided to stop releasing the data. Meanwhile, the real estate market is in crisis with home prices dropping and some big developers have defaulted.

The most straightforward answer is that accurately counting farmers would be both too difficult and too expensive.
The BLS website says the US government relies on administrative records from the Office of Unemployment Insurance to determine payroll data for its monthly job reports.
That means workers not covered under the government’s unemployment insurance system, which pays benefits to workers who have lost their jobs, won’t be counted.
Farm work is highly seasonal and is frequently family business-oriented or informal work, meaning that many of the industry’s employees are not traditionally covered by UI benefits, according to Erica Groshen, a former head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
